I received this query from one of my customers and published it here because I thought there might be more of you out there wanting to know how to optimize a flash site.
Question: "I need very specific help on how to optimize for a site with a flash into (I'd really like to keep the flash intro and have the site be optimized for search engines); if you have a cost-effective solution, please let me know."
Answer: If you would really like to use flash, here are a couple of useful articles you should read first.
Optimizing Flash for Search Engines - excellent article by Shari Thurow
Some Search Engines Index Flash Content
Other than that here are some tips
- Google does read links in flash presentations, so make sure your flash file has links pointing to the other pages in your website.
- Include some keyword-rich copy at the bottom of the page, where visitors will have to scroll to see it
- The flash sites that do rank well with Google almost always have a LARGE number of links pointing to them. So make sure you get your linking strategy off to a good start and get a lot of links over a period of time.
- The tutorial here also suggests placing the flash page in a frameset and optimizing the frameset page properly, or "calling" the Flash with Javascript and make good use of the 'noscript ' tag.
